What a Glass of Beer Proves Yet Again
I’m not a beer drinker, never was. Even so, this recent study had me laughing and marveling at the power of mind over matter.
The topic today is your taste buds. Or more specifically – how knowing the ingredients beforehand can change your taste.
What you THINK is going into your mouth actually CHANGES what you taste. In other words, your tastebuds are affected by your thoughts. If you expect something to taste a certain way, within reason of course, it will.
Back to the beer drinkers.
Most people who like beer would say vinegar worsens the taste. But Dr. Leonard Lee from M.I.T. found after a blind taste test where people didn’t know which beer contained the vinegar – 60 percent actually preferred the vinegar beer.
Another group of tasters found out which beer was which After they tasted it, but before they made their choices, and even so preferred the vinegar beer by the same margin. Their expectations won out.
The group who knew which beer had vinegar before taking a swig, well – you guessed it didn’t like it. Only about a third chose the vinebeer.
What does this prove.
Expectations can change how you experience life. Parents are masters at changing their children’s expectations. Dr. Lee remembers his mom giving him cod liver oil as a nutritional supplement. She called it ‘syrup.’
Another good and more unbiased parent would say, ‘just try it. You’ll like it.’
You know the saying ‘what you see is what you get’. Maybe it’s time to add ‘What you think is what you get.’ Hey, that includes other people’s words too. After all words are just thoughts made manifest.
Many people who are oblivious to this have overloaded and foggy brains. Can’t think clearly. Have trouble focusing and making even tiny decisions. It’s really quite disarmingly common.
What clears up run down brain cells. Music that’s positively charged. Charged up with light, with joy and with serenity. You see, music has its special ingredients too.
And you don’t need to add vinegar to prove it.
Warm Regards,
Tania Gabrielle French
