A Dose of Joy for the Winter Blues

My mother used to get the winter blues this time of year. In northern Germany the skies were mostly grey and the sun a rare visitor.

It’s quite common to feel a little down when days get shorter and sunlight barely emerges from above the horizon. But there’s another unseen ingredient contributing to the winter blues.

It might even be more seasonal than the winter blues.

One out of every two Americans report higher levels of anxiety, sadness, depression and stress during the holidays. One in four Americans say dealing with their family is the worst thing about the holidays.

Oh, can’t forget the holiday hog syndrome. The average American gains 10 pounds between Thanksgiving and New Year’s. That’s about 2 pounds a week for five weeks straight.

There’s no other time of the year when we spend more, eat more, gain more and get sicker.

Of course it does Not have to be this way. For one, if you’re doing things you really Don’t want to do, Stop doing them. You have the power to change the downward spiral into holiday hell.

Take time for yourself and Slow down.

Start exercising. These two things are not contradictions. One will help the other and vise versa.

Protect your emotional and spiritual health by doing things that make you feel great. That make you laugh. Eating and spending more won’t fit the bill if the repercussions are negative – i.e. you feel like a slob and you go into debt.

If you live in a cold climate, take a walk during the warmest part of the day to clear the cobwebs from your mind. A good walk does wonders.

Listen to uplifting, positively charged music. Music with high frequencies. Sounds that calm and inspire you. You’ll relax quicker than it takes to read this.

Indulge in the sounds on The Secret Power of Words and Music 5 CDs that make up your very own dose of rejuvenating calmness.

Warm Regards,
Tania Gabrielle French
