ABBA, Beatles and the Beach Boys

Yesterday Clayton and I took Clara to the ice rink for her first whirl on skates. After holding on to us for dear life she started to get the hang of it and fear turned into pure enjoyment.

Then came the moment of truth. They announced the last song after which Clara didn’t want to get off the ice. She didn’t want to take off her skates. She didn’t want to return her rental skates either. And she didn’t want to put on her shoes.

Clara’s definite plans for her life were explained away by us with rational reason. Luckily, Clara responded favorably. But not before we promised to return to the rink today.

Back to our skating experience.

Though I wish the music selection could have included some Johann Strauss Waltzes, at least we weren’t subjected to much of what passes as popular music these days.

Our ears and gliding limbs were exposed to - the Beach Boys, the Beatles and Abba.

Easygoing melodies with simple harmonies most folks can tolerate. Not bad. I must say, while stretching my legs for a few solo turns on the ice, I was smiling to some of the songs.

Most ears will never grow tired of good simple melodies supported by good simple harmonies and good, simple rhythms. Like the ones on the five CDs that make up The Secret Power of Words and Music.

As you welcome in the New Year tonight, put on some great music.

Not the pounding, heart-beat quickening, gyrating junk that passes for music. No, listen to positively charged, relaxing sounds. Sounds that slow you down while waking you up. Not to be mistaken for sad music. But the Vibrations of joy and meditation.

Warm Regards,
Tania Gabrielle French

P.S. Tomorrow is going to be a MAJOR Day of Celebration.
