Five Ways to Beat the High Volume
Often the only way to block out unwanted noise is to turn up the volume on your iPod.
Understandable, but beware.
MP3 players are great little devices – except for one dilemma. You’ve got to keep the volume lower than you might want to.
Because, if you turn the volume to maximum on a typical iPod device for more than 5 minutes a day, you could permanently damage your hearing. It only takes a handful of minutes. My bet is that there are millions of people around the world who’ve already done in their hearing.
The noisier your environment, the greater the danger, since you’ll be wanting to cancel out noise with higher-than-safe volumes.
The number of gadgets sending amplified sound directly into your ear canal, including cell phones, has risen exponentially in the last few years. Maybe that’s why over 2/3rds of hearing loss is now occurring in people below age 65. That’s a big change.
Here are five ways to prevent this kind of hearing loss.
1. If you’re exposed to noise, take breaks in silence to recuperate.
2. Listen to music that doesn’t have a pounding beat and amplified instruments, such as electric guitar.
3. Purchase noise reduction earphones so you can hear better at lower volumes.
4. Take time-outs from ear devices by plugging your MP3 into speakers.
5. Recuperate frayed eardrums with soothing, calming sounds.
Quiet down your day as often as you can. The benefits are tremendous – notably a clear mind and less tension. Better yet, play the sounds that naturally bring you into that quiet space - http://www.artabundance.com/secretpower.htm - you can’t go wrong with positively charged music.
