The Day My Husband Fainted
It was eight years ago. We were preparing for an afternoon flight from Los Angeles to Seattle. I’m going to let Clayton tell the rest in his own words.
“We were hard pressed for time. A taxi was due any
minute and my wife was still making sandwiches for our
flight. I was madly closing up suitcases, programming light timers, cleaning out the cat box.
Suddenly my wife exclaimed my name in a way I'll never
forget. It sounded like a wail and an exclamation, fused. I knew this wasn't good.
Dropping everything I ran to the kitchen. Tania's holding her left hand, blood is running down her left arm. In trying to spear an avocado seed she had inadvertently gone through a rotten seed and opened one of her fingers up quite nicely instead - I like having Sharp knives in the kitchen.
Well, I immediately became mister calm and collected. Talked soothingly lovingly as I wrapped up her hand in a
towel, ran out and cancelled the cab which had arrived, got her to the hospital quick as a flash, and ushered her into the examination room, I was a paragon of strength and reassurance.
'Want to stay?' asks the surgeon as he peels away the
blood soaked towel.
'Oh sure,' I said, in complete ignorance of what would
befall me only minutes later.
After the towel had been removed and dropped in a 'hazardous materials' wastebasket, the doc began his examination of the damage. As he's doing so he's talking out loud to the surgical nurse. Yep, cut straight thru the dermis, partially severed the blankety-blank nerve, good nick to the bone.'
Up til 'partially severed the ...nerve', I was fine.
But just after I heard him say 'bone' the room began spinning in circles. The last thing I heard before waking up on the floor a few minutes later was the nurse shouting, 'grab him, he's passing out!'
As I came to I could see the nurse was still quite annoyed. 'You'll have to leave the room now,' she quipped at me as I shuffled for the door.
Well, so much for mister 'in control'.
After sewing up Tania the surgeon did come out and check
on me. 'Next time you feel you're going to pass out, focus on breathing,' he said. 'You can't pass out if you do that.'”
Very true. Focus on breathing and a lot of things are improved. Most importantly, stress is reduced – almost instantly.
Add calming music to the mix and relaxing happens even quicker. Hearing beautiful, soothing sounds will naturally make you breathe deeply.
Think of your breath as connecting your mind to your body. Then invest in the easiest solution to all sorts of stress out there, high frequency music high frequency music. Deep breathing has never been this easy.
Warm Regards,
Tania Gabrielle French
