Another Addict Kicks His Habit

Believing that certain music is as powerful as any addictive drug might be a hard one to swallow. But, yet again, science is winning out.

I know this by all the mail I received in response to my message on how the rhythm in rock music throws your heartbeat out of sync and destroys the synchronization of your brain’s left and right hemispheres.

And if you think you’re off the hook if you don’t listen to 70’s
rock - think again. Because, this is what I didn’t mention. The
damaging rhythm in 70’s rock is the basis of most pop, rock
and dance songs of Today as well.

With that in mind, read this:

Hi Tania,
This is just a short note to thank you for the emails that you send out. I really enjoy their content and find them all intriguing. For what its worth, when I was ~10 yrs old John Williams (movie soundtrack composer... not the classical artist) and Jerry Goldsmith were my intro to great music, and they happily offset the awful affects of the heavy metal rock I was forced to endure on the school bus every day. Early on, they led me into the appreciation of the truly great composers of the past.

I can attest to the information that you wrote about in your newsletter regarding the addictive affects of rock music.

Even though I didn't enjoy it, I found myself unwillingly and unwittingly addicted to those rhythms that have lasted for 25 yrs. It is difficult for the layperson to find concrete scientific information about the affects of rock music, and I am grateful to you for putting out the message that this is really damaging stuff.

I am making more intelligent, better-informed decisions about the music I purchase, as well as the ambient music I subject myself to.

I ordered your CD set a while ago and have enjoyed them. Thank you for the good work and helpful words you are putting out.

God bless you,
