The Ripple Effect of Change
I overheard quite the curious thing last week.
Was just minding my own business shopping at one of our local farmer’s markets. With our daughter Clara in hand, I stepped up to a stand selling bio-dynamic greens.
A couple next to me asked the guy selling the produce where Bob was this season. Turns out Bob was running this bio-dynamic business up until this year.
‘Bob’s not farming anymore,’ this guy replied. ‘He’s renting out his cottages and making more in three days than he ever did in three weeks on the field.’
Good for Bob, I thought to myself. Then my thought was interrupted by one of the strangest responses. The couple, a man and a woman, both said, how sad it was that Bob wouldn’t be out in the field. What could he do now with his life. How boring it must be.
And so on. I looked on incredulously.
And I did something I usually don’t do. It was one of those spontaneous moments that can clear the air. I took a deep breath, turned to the couple and said, ‘You must have never had extra money in your pocket and the freedom to enjoy your days as you please.’
‘No,’ the man acknowledged, ‘we don’t know what that feels like.’
I continued, ‘Well, believe me, your life takes on a whole new meaning when you have time to create the life of your dreams.”
The person behind the stand chimed in and told the couple how happy Bob was now that he’s got more time and financial resources. And that he still was growing his own food.
This little exchange reminded me of how important imagination is. Without it we’re doomed to a monotone, colorless life of quiet desperation. With imagination, life is a limitless ocean of opportunities.
Imagination opens our mind to the future and makes it present. An open mind adapts quickly and readily accepts the fortunes life has to offer. It does this easily, because it has the courage to climb over rotten ideas. An open mind has the audacity to replace ideology with individuality.
One easy and powerful way to open your mind is to listen and relax to beautiful music and words of wisdom. The Secret Power of Words and Music is one such powerful sound elixir. Immerse your senses now.
Warm Regards,
